5 REASONS WHY DRINKING MORE WATER CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT

Have you heard that before? That drinking water will help you lose weight faster. And if is true, how does it work? The short answer is yes, but let’s see how it works
- WATER IS AN APPETITE SUPPRESANT
When the stomach senses that it is full, it will send some signals to the brain that will tell you to stop eating. Therefore, drinking water before a meal may actually reduce appetite because you will feel fuller and that in itself can reduce hunger. Studies of older adults have shown that drinking water before each meal may increase weight loss by 2 kg (4.4 lbs) over a 12-week period. Just by drinking one glass of water before a meal can reduce calorie intake with 75 calories per meal. Do the math! That is 27,000 fewer calories a year.
- YOU MIGHT BE THIRSTY, NOT HUNGRY
Are you someone that is simply not into drinking water? You might not be hungry, you might possibly only be thirsty. And when you are thirsty you might interpret the signals as hunger. Consider a glass of water, wait 10 min and reassess if you have been hungry or thirsty.
- DON’T DRINK YOUR CALORIES!
Water on its own is 100% calorie free. By replacing juices, sodas and energy drinks with water one can reduce your calorie intake significantly. Add a slice of lemon to your water if you think it tastes boring. And yes, the pectin in lemon reduces food cravings. Drink it ice cold to help boost your metabolism, as the body will have to work a tiny bit harder to warm it up.
- DRINK ENOUGH WATER
It is recommended to follow the “8x8” rule. Drink 8 ounces of water every hour for 8 hours. Of course this rule is just a general guideline, as you might need to drink more if you sweat heavily or if you exercise. How do you know you are drinking enough? Check your urine- it should be clear or light colored.
- WATER IS NECCESARY TO BURN FAT
The body uses a process called lipolysis to break down and metabolize stored fat . Although it has only been proven in animal studies, it is for sure something to consider. Without water the body can not metabolize carbohydrates and fats
SO WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS, ESPECIALLY IF I DO NOT LIKE WATER!
Here are a few tips and tricks to increase water intake
- Who said you must like water? This thought alone can already give you a lot of freedom. Just chuck it down if you don’t want to savor it
- Try herbal teas or flavor your water. You can also add a slice of lemon or lime. Find something that works for you.
- Stack your water drinking habit with another habit that you are already doing well. Walking every afternoon? Drink a glass of water when you get back. Routinely making a cup of coffee as soon as you get up? Have a glass of water first
- Track your water drinking habit. Nothing is as satisfying as marking it off when you finish a glass of water
- Remember, any amount that you are drinking today that is more than yesterday, is a success.
- Whenever you are hungry, drink some water, wait 10 min and recheck your hunger signals.
- When having a meal and not sure if you are still hungry, drink a glass of water, wait 10 minutes and decide
