5 WEIGHT LOSS MYTHS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IF YOU WANT TO LOSE THE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF

Myth #1 Weight loss can create happiness.
Yip, as soon as you get to that goal weight, you’ll find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and will be happy forever after. And that of course is the ultimate lie, as happiness is never tied to a specific weight. You will find something else to be unhappy about. Happiness is a feeling, and feelings are created by our thoughts. It is truly more about the weight loss journey than the destination. Interesting fact: Self sabotage when hitting your weight loss goals is a thing. Basically, a diet will not get to the root of why you are unhappy. Mind work is needed here.

Myth # 2 There is a “moral code” attached to food. It is either good or bad.
Food rules are plenty, and confusing. Every diet comes with its own complex food rules classifying food as good or bad, healthy or unhealthy. Eat this, but not that. What if foods can be both good and bad, depending how we use it? What if we can have freedom around food without a need to have black and white thinking around it?

Myth #3 You cannot trust yourself to make decisions around food
This is a big one. We are led to believe by the diet industry that we cannot control our decision making about food. That is one of the reasons why the diet industry has a myriad of everchanging solutions, and we desperately want to believe that the next diet is going to be our ultimate solution. We are all so different. How can there be just one weight loss solution that will work for everyone? We each have our own preferences, favorite foods, and dislikes. If your food plan is not a “forever food plan” you will feel deprived and quit.

Myth # 4 There is something wrong with you when you cannot control yourself around food
So much self-shaming happens around our food cravings and your struggle around weight. Are you too mystified why you cannot control your food cravings? What you might not be aware of is that your primitive brain (I call her Primitive Patty) does exactly what she is supposed to do- telling you how to be safe in the cave. Unluckily that is not relevant in the 21st century, as we are not living in a cave anymore and no need to conserve energy and eat for survival. It is a skill to learn how to use your executive decision making brain (I call her Executive Ella).

Myth # 5 It is your Thyroid
We often blame our hormones for our struggles with losing weight and keeping it off. And it is totally true. Weight is regulated in a complex way with several hormones, including ghrelin, leptin and insulin. These hormones interact with one another and regulates hunger, satiety as well as fat storage. Understanding what triggers the release of hormones and how they influence weight management can provide great insight in how to fine tune a weight loss plan.
At Rethink Your Weight, I will teach you how to lose the weight and keep it off without diet, exercise or complicated food plans.
